On this page you will find information on Bangkok to Chiang Mai Train Ticket Booking Online or at the Station.
As the Bangkok to Chiang Mai Train is the most popular route for tourists in Thailand, you would be advised to book your tickets as far in advance as possible, as these trains are often fully booked weeks in advance of their departure date.
This is especially true of the busy tourist months of the year from December to March and if you happen to be in Thailand during the Thai New Year (Songkran in April), trains will be booked out two months in advance, as most of Thailand travels home during the New Year holidays.
Train tickets in Thailand go on sale 60 days in advance and can be purchased from any mainline station (with a computer reservation system).
If you are not in Thailand and as the State Railway of Thailand does not have an online booking facility, you will have to get someone inside the country to buy a ticket for you.
This is easily done using an online agent.
They charge a small fee for this service (around 100 Baht) but it also saves you the time and expense of travelling out to Bangkok Railway Station at Hua Lamphong, as soon as you arrive in the country.
Once you purchase your ticket, you can pick it up from their office at Hua Lamphong Station (located opposite the station), or you can have it sent to you by post, but this is more expensive.
If you are in Thailand already our best advice if you want to travel between Bangkok and Chiang Mai by train, is to book your seat or sleeping berth as far in advance as possible by visiting your nearest SRT railway station.
