If you want to travel on the KTMB Train from Singapore to Penang in Malaysia, from the 19th May 2016, you will now have to take three trains.
The first is the Shuttle Train from Singapore Woodlands to JB Sentral in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
The second is the Shuttle Train from JB to Gemas.
The third is the new ETS high-speed Electric Train Service from Gemas to Butterworth.
From the train station in Butterworth, you can then take a couple of minutes walk to the ferry terminal, where boats leave regularly over to Penang Island and the old part of the city of George Town.

If you decide to travel from Singapore to JB Sentral by one of the Shuttle Trains, a ticket from Woodlands station will cost 5 SGD.
Shuttle Train from JB to Gemas :

ETS Gold Service from Gemas to Butterworth :
Adult - 83 MYR / Child - 46 MYR
Arriving in Butterworth Station, you can then catch a regular ferry over to George Town on Penang Island.
