An alternative and much cheaper way to travel from Ipoh to Sungai Siput is to take a KTM Komuter Ipoh to Sg Siput train rather than the more expensive and less frequent ETS services.
Now that the Northern Commuter (Komuter Utara) route has been extended to Ipoh, you can take a fairly regular train on the Ipoh to Butterworth Komuter Route.
Departures start from the first train in the early hours of the morning and run until the last train in the early evening.

Tickets for these commuter trains are only available to buy on the day of departure from Ipoh Railway Station.
You should try to arrive at Ipoh train station a least 15 - 20 minutes before your train departs.
This should hopefully give you enough time to buy your tickets and make your way to the platform.
Please note that Ipoh train station is often very busy so you may want to get there even earlier during the busy rush hours.
