KTM Train from Ipoh to Hat Yai Timetable (Jadual) ETS / Shuttle - Fare

From May 2016, travel on the KTMB train from Ipoh to Hat Yai in Southern Thailand can only be done using the new ETS Trains, as all Intercity Trains on the N - S Railway Line are cancelled from this date.

The first step on your journey to Hat Yai is to take the High-speed Electric Train Service (ETS) from Ipoh to Padang Besar.

New KTM Komuter service from Ipoh:

You can now also take a KTM Komuter train from Ipoh to Padang Besar (via Bukit Mertajam). These trains are much cheaper than the ETS services, but will take longer to get to the border.

To get to Padang Besar from Ipoh by KTM Komuter train you need to take a Komuter from Ipoh to Padang Besar, then change onto another Komuter train from Bukit Mertajam to Padang Besar.

Another alternative is to travel on the International Express Train 46, that travels from Padang Besar to Hat Yai (then on to Bangkok).

This used to be very expensive, but now they have added a few cheap 3rd Class carriages to this service and they will cost you the same as travelling on the Shuttle trains.

If you want to travel from Padang Besar to Hat Yai by minivan or bus, you will have to cross into Thailand using the main border crossing (located just over the tracks from the station).

Before going through the border control at the station, go upstairs and take the walkway over the railway tracks.

This gets you to the main land border crossing.

After exiting the Thai Immigration, there is a bus stop just across the road.

Here you can catch local buses to Hat Yai for just under 50 Baht.

This bus first stops at Hat Yai bus station, which is around 5kms away from the city centre.

From the bus station, you can get buses to anywhere in southern Thailand, all the way up to Bangkok.

It then continues on to the Clock Tower, around 10 minutes walk from the city centre.

Adult: 54 MYR - Child: 31 MYR

ETS Platinum Service:

Adult: 66 MYR - Child: 37 MYR

Tickets for the Shuttle Train to Hat Yai have to be bought from Padang Besar Station on the day of travel and can not currently be purchased online.
