Travelling from Johor Bahru to Penang Island, you can now take the fast ETS train from JB Sentral to Butterworth Railway Station on the mainland, then take a short ferry ride over to Georgetown on Penang Island. The duration of the train journey from JB to Butterworth, Penang, is eight hours and 20 minutes by the direct train, or you could take a more frequent service to KL Sentral and then connect to a KL to Butterworth ETS train.
Other travel options include taking at ETS to Ipoh, then connecting to a cheap KTM Komuter Utara train from Ipoh to Butterworth.
