There are only a few direct ETS Kajang to Ipoh train services, so you are often better off taking a KTM Komuter train to KL Sentral Railway Station first, then you can connect to many more services heading north.
These fast Electric Train Services (keretapi laju) are operated by Malaysian Railways - Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (known as KTM or KTMB for short).
The duration of the train journey from Kajang to Ipoh is around three hours for the fastest direct trains.

If you want a far greater choice of trains to Ipoh, you can head to KL Sentral first on one of the cheap and regular KTM Komuter trains.
Once at KL Sentral, you can then take one of the ETS services on the KL to Ipoh route or on the KL to Padang Besar or Butterworth routes.

Advance booking is highly recommended whenever you want to travel by ETS train as seat numbers are limited, there are no standing passengers allowed and trains can get fully booked well in advance during busy periods of the year (with the KTM Flexi Fares it is also cheaper to book as far in advance as you can).
