Much more comfortable than the bus, the Hat Yai to Bangkok train offers a nice easy way to travel, with a choice of departures, all travelling overnight to the capital, reaching Hua Lamphong Railway Station the next morning.
The distance from Hat Yai to Bangkok is 945 Kilometres if you go by train, with a duration of the journey of around 13 and a half hours for the fastest Diesel Railcar service, to over 18 hours for the slowest Rapid train.

All of the trains from Hat Yai have comfortable sleeping berths / beds available, except for the fast sprinter train number 42.
This is a much smaller train made up of just a few carriages, with all coaches having only 2nd class seats available.
So, you get there faster, but you have to sit all the way.
It's much more relaxing to travel on one of the sleeper trains and get the chance to lie down in your berth and get "some sleep".

If you plan to rough it in 3rd class, there is no need to make a reservation.
You can buy your tickets from Hat Yai Junction Railway Station at the advance booking office, located in the main entrance of the station (on your left as you enter - opposite the ticket counter for today's departures).
