When travelling short distances on trains in Thailand, it is always best to take the slower Ordinary or Rapid services as you avoid all the expensive fixed fees you have to pay for the faster services.
Fares for the trip from Phet Buri to Hua Hin start from as little as 14 Baht for a seat on an Ordinary train, 3rd class carriage.
If you plan to travel on the cheap trains on fan cooled 2nd / 3rd class carriages, you just turn up at Phetchaburi Railway Station and buy a ticket for the next departure.
If you want to take one of the more expensive, faster trains in A/C 2nd or 1st class, you may find tickets on the day hard to come by, so you should plan ahead and book your seats at least a few days ahead.
