How to Travel from Malaysia to Singapore by Train

If you would like to travel from Malaysia to Singapore by train, since the 1st of July 2015 you will have to disembark all KTM trains at JB Sentral Railway Station in Johor Bahru Malaysia and then catch a very short five minute Shuttle Train over the Causeway to Woodlands Railway Station in Singapore.

All KTM Intercity and Shuttle Trains from all destinations within Peninsular Malaysia now terminate at JB Sentral Station.

Malaysia to Singapore by Train

These Shuttle Trains (Shuttle Tebrau) from JB to Woodlands have become very popular with commuters in and out of Singapore (as the immigration process at the stations is far more quicker than the often congested Causeway road route) and since their inception the number of services has increased to 12 a day.

In fact these trains are run for commuters rather than for connecting passengers from long distance KTM trains in Malaysia.

This means you may well have to wait a while for the connection to Singapore.

You are also advised to book your tickets in advance to guarantee a seat on these popular trains (this is especially true during the rush hours in the morning when the trains from JB will often be fully booked well in advance).

How much do tickets from Malaysia to Singapore by train cost?

Tickets for this short train trip from Malaysia to Singapore cost just 5 Malaysian Ringgit.

Tickets can be purchased from the ticket counters at JB Sentral Station but as already said, you will be better off buying your tickets in advance online.

If you are travelling in the opposite direction from Singapore to JB Sentral, tickets on the Shuttle Train will cost you 5 Singapore Dollars (roughly around three times as much).
