Train 46 in Thailand is a sleeper train service that originates from the Malaysian border station of Padang Besar, travelling overnight to Bangkok's main railway station, Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (Bang Sue Grand Station).
Operated by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), the overnight train from Padang Besar to Bangkok takes just over 16 hours to travel from the Malaysian border to Bangkok.

Train 46 is an all 2nd-class air-conditioned sleeper train with all seating converting into lower and upper sleeping berths.

Lower berths are wider and more comfortable than upper berths, so they cost a little more (and are the first to sell out).
We would highly recommend you book your train tickets on train 46 as far in advance as you can, as during the high season this train is often fully booked weeks in advance.

If you do turn up at Padang Besar railway station without a ticket and all sleeping berths are sold out, the best thing to do is to take train 46 to Hat Yai Junction railway station (or take an earlier shuttle train if you arrive early enough).
