This train offers a good choice of some of the cheaper berths and seats and is good for those who want a cheap bed, as it offers the fan cooled sleeping carriages.
These are quite popular as a lot of people find the air-conditioned sleepers too cold.
Like all the other night sleeper services on this route, there is a restaurant car where you can get food and drinks (no alcohol is now allowed on Thai trains).
As the Bangkok to Chiang Mai train route is one of the most popular trips by rail in Thailand, you should always book your tickets in advance (unless you want to travel 3rd class).
Tickets for this journey go on sale 90 days before the departure date and the best berths (the much wider lower berths), often sell out many weeks before.
To book advance tickets, the easiest way is to book online >
You can also buy tickets from any State Railway of Thailand (SRT) station advance ticket office at larger stations, or just ask at the ticket counter at smaller stations.
