If you want to get from Batu Gajah to Langkawi Island by train, one of the best options is to take the ETS Batu Gajah to Arau train operated by KTM / KTMB.
Arau train station is the gateway to the Kuala Perlis Ferry Terminal (Jetty).
Another option would be to go via Alor Setar for the ferry from Kuala Kedah, however, Kuala Perlis boats offer the quickest ride over to Kuah Jetty on Langkawi at only one hour and 15 minutes and the ferry from here is the cheapest boat trip from anywhere in Malaysia.
The travel duration (tempoh perjalanan) for the ETS train to Arau from Batu Gajah is a little under three hours.

Travel by ETS train in Malaysia is on a seat only basis and you will need a reservation to board the train.
