When travelling by ETS train in Malaysia you need a reserved seat to board the train (no standing passengers are allowed).
We would always recommend booking your seats in advance as trains can often be full during busy public and school holidays, festival days and weekends.
To book advance ETS tickets you can:
Go to a ticket counter at any KTMB ETS railway station.
After arriving at Butterworth ETS / Komuter Train Station, if you are planning to travel over to Georgetown on Penang island, just follow the signs to the ferry departure point via the Penang Sentral Terminal building.
The walk to the ferry jetty should take you between 5 and 10 minutes.
The Penang Sentral Terminal is also the place to go if you want to connect to either local buses or long-distance coaches.
