Taking the fast ETS Parit Buntar to Butterworth train is the quickest way to get to Penang Island, however, there are much cheaper KTM Komuter Utara (northern commuter) rail services that will get you there for far less money.
All these train services are operated by Malaysian Railways (Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad or just KTM and KTMB for short).
The duration of the journey by ETS train to Butterworth from Parit Buntar is just 28 minutes, however, if you don't mind a slightly longer journey, the commuter train is a much better option.
Some KTM Komuter trains travel directly to Butterworth, while at other times you will have to change trains at Bukit Mertajam.
