There is a daily ETS Seremban to Butterworth train if you want to travel to Penang Island, with the new Electric Train Services taking around five and a half hours to make the trip to Butterworth, so much faster than the older (and now cancelled) diesel Intercity Express trains that used to run on this route.
Please Note : from 1st of February 2017 a new ETS schedule has been introduced.

New ETS Timetable from 1st February 2017 :
From this date there will no longer be a direct service from Seremban to Butterworth.
If you want to travel from seremban to Penang by train you now have a couple of options.
2) Take an ETS to Taiping from Sremban, then connect to the Komuter services to Bukit Mertajam and then another to Butterworth.
ETS tickets for these services can be purchased up to 60 days ahead of your departure date.
You can buy your tickets from any KTM ticket counter at any mainline railway station in Malaysia.
Rather than having to visit a station, it is much easier to book your tickets online.
There is a small administration fee for booking online using KTMB, but is saves you the time and cost of having to visit the railway station.
You can also book tickets online through agents which usually works out cheaper.
If you are travelling all the way to Butterworth to go to Penang Island and the old heritage city of George Town, the railway station is located just a few minutes walk away from the ferry terminal, for boats over to the island.
Ferries leave regularly throughout the day and evening and take just 15 minutes to reach the Jetty in the old part of George Town.
