Taking the ETS Kajang to Alor Setar train is a good way to travel to Langkawi overland with the Kuala Kedah Jetty just a short distance from the railway station.
These fast trains are operated by Malaysian Railways Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTM / KTMB).
The ferry from Kuala Kedah to Kuah on Langkawi takes one hour and 45 minutes.
Another way to travel to Langkawi from Kajang by train is to take the train from Kajang to KTM Arau.
From here you can get to the ferry terminal at Kuala Perlis where you can take the shortest boat ride over to Langkawi (just one hour and 15 minutes).

Travel by ETS train in Malaysia is on a seat only basis (no standing passengers allowed).

If you are heading to Langkawi Island, you can take a taxi from the station in Alor Setar or walk into the city and catch a local bus to the ferry terminal at Kuala Kedah.
