ETS Taiping to Padang Besar Train Schedule (Jadual KTM)
If you plan to travel from Taiping to Hat Yai, Thailand, you can take a fast KTM ETS Taiping to Padang Besar train to the Malaysia-Thai border, or you can choose the much cheaper option of taking a KTM Komuter via Bukit Mertajam.
Once you arrive at Padang Besar Railway Station, the easiest option to get to Hat Yai is to take one of the SRT Shuttle trains.
Other transport options include taking a taxi, bus or minivan (from the main border crossing next to PB station).

Taiping to Padang Besar KTM Commuter Trains
(Kereta Api Komuter KTM Taiping ke Padang Besar)
If you don't mind a longer journey, travelling by commuter train (KTM Komuter) from Taiping to Padang Besar is much cheaper (see fares below).
To travel to the Thai border from Taiping you will first have to take the Komuter train to Bukit Mertajam (BM).

Transport from Padang Besar to Hat Yai

To travel from Taiping to Hatyai by train for the whole journey, you need to connect to one of the Shuttle Trains operated by the State Railways of Thailand (SRT).
To travel from Taiping to Bangkok by train, you can connect to the overnight sleeper service to Bangkok that departs from Padang Besar station daily.

This train is also useful for to travel to popular tourist destinations along south-east coast of Thailand, as it stops at stations such as:
Surat Thani (for boats to Koh Samui and
Koh Phangan), Chumphon (for boats to Ko Tao) and Hua Hin beach resort.
Other ways to get from Padang Besar to Hat Yai will mean you have to leave the train station.
Go up the stairs one floor and you will see a covered pedestrian bridge leading over the railway tracks.
This bridge takes you to the main land border crossing for cars, buses, trucks etc...
At the end of the bridge is where you will find waiting taxi drivers to take you to Hat Yai (price negotiable).
Turn left and you will see the Malaysian immigration.
Get stamped out of Malaysia, then walk about 10 minutes (or take a motorbike taxi) to the Thai immigration area to get your passport stamped in to Thailand.
Now you are in Thailand, you can take an infrequent local bus (bus stop just across the road to your right) or walk 10 minutes in to town where the minivan station is located (or get the same motorbike taxi to take you there).
