An alternative and quicker way to travel from TBS Bus Terminal to Butterworth, Penang, is to take the ETS TBS to Butterworth train operated by KTMB.
These trains depart from Bandar Tasik Selatan Railway Station (adjoining the bus station).
Currently there is only one direct service a day to Butterworth (Penang Sentral) from BTS, but you can easily take a short KTM Komuter train or KLIA Transit train to KL Sentral Railway Station where there are more departures.

As previously mentioned above, if you take the short trip to KL Sentral first, there is a greater choice of departures to Butterworth, Penang.
The cheapest way to travel to KL Sentral from TBS Bus Station is to take one of the regular KTM Komuter Trains (duration of the journey is 18 minutes).
Alternatively you can take the non-stop KLIA Transit train (duration of the journey is 10 minutes).

If you want to travel on ETS trains in Malaysia, you have to make a seat reservation.
If you are lucky you may find seats still available on the day of travel, however, trains are often fully booked well in advance during busy periods (holidays, weekends etc).
We would strongly advise you to book your train seats before you arrive at TBS and if you decide to go via KL Sentral, buy your tickets from the BTS ticket counter before you set off for KL Sentral, then if the train is full you can still take the bus from TBS to Penang or Butterworth.
To make an advance booking on ETS trains you can:
Visit any ETS railway station ticket counter.
Or book online via the KTMB website or using an agent >
