The easiest, quickest and most direct way to get from Gurun to Butterworth (Penang Sentral) is to take a KTM Komuter (commuter) train operated by Malaysia Railways (Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad).
These KTM Komuter Utara trains (northern commuter) are the cheapest and fastest way to travel in this part of north-west Peninsular Malaysia with services running every one or two hours apart.
There are no ETS trains from Gurun to Penang Sentral (Butterworth).

If you are travelling from Gurun to Georgetown on Penang Island, once you arrive at Butterworth railway station it is just a short walk over to the Penang Sentral Terminal building where the ferry departs over to Georgetown, Pulau Pinang.
