KTMB Train from Singapore to Penang Malaysia

If you want to travel on the KTMB Train from Singapore to Penang in Malaysia, from the May 2016, you will now have to take three trains.

The first is the Shuttle Train from Singapore Woodlands to JB Sentral in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

The second is the Shuttle Train from JB to Gemas.

The third is the ETS high-speed Electric Train Service from Gemas to Butterworth.


From the train station in Butterworth, you can then take a couple of minutes walk to the ferry terminal, where boats leave regularly over to Penang Island and the old part of the city of George Town.

Fares shown below are for one-way journeys using Gemas as the point of entry for the ETS services:

If you decide to travel from Singapore to JB Sentral by one of the Shuttle Trains, a ticket from Woodlands station will cost 5 SGD.

Shuttle Train from JB to Gemas :

Adult : 21 MYR - Child : 15 MYR

ETS Gold Service from Gemas to Butterworth :

Adult - 83 MYR - Child - 46 MYR

Arriving in Butterworth Station (Penang Sentral), you can then catch a regular ferry over to George Town on Penang Island.

The trip takes just 15 minutes and you arrive on the edge of the old part of town where you will find most of the budget accommodation and heritage hotels within a 5 -10 minute walk, or you can take a few bus or taxi.
