There is a daily ETS Seremban to Butterworth train if you want to travel to Penang Island (Georgetown), with the new Electric Train Services taking around five and a half hours to make the trip to Butterworth, so much faster than the older (and now cancelled) diesel Intercity Express trains that used to run on this route.

ETS tickets for these services can be purchased up to a few months ahead of your departure date, but advance booking periods vary quite considerably throughout the year and depend on when KTM release tickets for sale.
You can buy your tickets from any KTM ticket counter at any mainline railway station in Malaysia.
Rather than having to visit a station, it is much easier to book your tickets online.
There may be a small administration fee depending on how you choose to pay, but is saves you the time and cost of having to visit the railway station.

If you are travelling all the way to Butterworth to go to Penang Island and the old heritage city of George Town, the railway station is located just a few minutes walk away from the ferry terminal, for boats over to the island.
Ferries leave regularly throughout the day and evening and take just 15 minutes to reach the Jetty in the old part of George Town.
