How to travel by Train from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi from KL Sentral via Alor Setar and the ferry from Kuala Kedah or Arau and the ferry from Kuala Perlis.

Which Train Station to use for Langkawi?

The first thing you need to decide is which station to travel to.

One way to go would be by using Alor Setar Train Station, which is the closest to KL and from where you can easily travel to the Jetty at Kuala Kedah by a very cheap local bus or taxi.

The boat trip from here is half an hour longer and a little more expensive, but you will save a lot by using the local bus (especially if you are on your travelling alone).

Arau Train Station is a few stops to the north and the gateway to the Jetty at Kuala Perlis.

This is the shortest distance to Langkawi by ferry, with boats taking around an hour and 15 minutes to travel to Kuah Town Jetty on the island.

The only problem with going to Arau is that you will probably have to take a taxi to the jetty, as buses are infrequent and the only bus leaving from Arau train station is a Maraliner Bus (MyBas) that goes to Kangar.

From Kangar Bus Terminal, you then have to take another MyBas Perlis bus to the Kuala Perlis Bus Terminal.

From the bus terminal, it is then a five minute walk to the ferry jetty.

A taxi, from Arau station to Kuala Perlis should cost around 26 MYR.
