You can purchase train tickets in Malaysia up to 60 days in advance from any mainline railway station on the KTMB railway network.
If you turn up on the day of travel hoping to buy a ticket there is a good chance you will not be able to get a seat.
If you are already in Kuala Lumpur, rather than travel all the way to KL Sentral Station, it is easier to buy your train tickets online.
There is a small admin fee to pay on top of the ticket price if you book online through the KTMB website, but it will save you the time and expense of travelling to the station.
You can also use online ticketing agents that usually work out a little bit cheaper.
