Taking the KTM ETS Kuala Kangsar to Alor Setar train is the quickest way to get to the capital city of Kedah state. It is also a good place to go if you want to travel from Kuala Kangsar to Langkawi as the nearby ferry terminal at Kuala Kedah has regular boats over to the island.

You should always try to book your ETS tickets in advance as during busy periods trains can get fully booked weeks in advance.

If you are travelling to Alor Setar to take the ferry over to Pulau Langkawi, you can take a taxi from the station or a bus from the city centre to the jetty at Kuala Kedah.
